Do not have your jewelry clean by machine polisher or dipped in any cleaning agents, these processes can wear away the gold or layers. Use a soft, clean, cloth to remove dirt, oils and other material from the jewelry.

Will my silver jewelry tarnish?

By nature, sterling silver will tarnish when exposed to air. Most of the sterling silver uses to make jewelry is coated to prevent or slow the tarnishing process, however proper care and storage will help to keep our jewelry sparkling and clean. If our sterling pieces should become tarnished, use a jewelry-grade polishing cloth to clean them. Never apply polishing agents to sterling jewelry as these may scratch or damage them. Avoid applying lotions, hair products, etc. while wearing any of jewelry as these may damage it.

Solid Gold Purity and Karats: The karat is a very old measure of how much gold is in an alloy or gold-blend but here is a quick break down of the measurement. A measure of 1 Karat is where there is 1 part of pure gold and 23 parts of metal alloy - or 4% gold. So 24K is 100% pure gold. 14K is 58%, 18K is 75%. We only use golds of 14K or better.

Gold Plated: In a gold plated piece of jewelry, also referred to as gold dipped, a base metal such as sterling silver, steel or brass is dipped into a bath of electroplating solution and a lump of solid gold. When an electric current is applied, a thin layer of gold is deposited on the metal. Since the plating is thin, the plate and hence the color can wear off and can easily scratch. The piece can be re-dipped for a small fee. We only use Sterling Silver as a base metal for our gold plated jewelry.

Gold or Rose Vermeil: (Pronounced: “Vermay”) is sterling silver that has been gold-plated with a much thicker coating of gold. To be considered vermeil, the coating must be gold, must be at least 10 carat and be at least 2.5 mm thick. In vermeil, the base is sterling silver. This is a good combination for those with allergy to normal, plated jewelry items. We use 14K and better for our vermeil jewelry.

Gold Filled: Also called rolled gold. These jewelry items are not actually filled with solid gold. They are made of a base metal (usually brass or copper) covered by sheets of gold in a mechanical bonding process. Effectively, a thick coat of gold: the gold content is 5% per federal regulation. Gold filled is the best to choose for pieces you want to last a lifetime. Usually made with 14k gold, it is hard wearing. With general care it will not peel or flake, and should last as long as solid 14k gold jewelry. It is safe for most people with sensitive skin.

Gold plated and vermeil jewelry does reacts with chlorine, perfumes water and lotions. You should never take your gold plated or veremeil jewelry into a pool, sea, shower or spa. If you need to have it redipped, just email us for details. **We recommend removing plated jewelry when using antibacterial products such as hand soap or sanitizers, bathing, swimming and using lotions or sunscreens.

Sterling Silver: A mixture of pure silver and some other metal, usually copper. The resulting alloy gives the silver strength. The standard is at least 92.5% silver. Hence the .925 stamp you see on some sterling silver items. We only use .925 silver.
